Between 2023 and 2024, the global average concentration of CO2 surged by 3.5 parts per million (ppm) to reach 423.9 ppm, the WMO has said. This is the largest increase since modern measurements started in 1957 and is well in excess of the 2022 to 2023 increase of 2.3 ppm.

Под замръзналата почва във вътрешността на Аляска се пробужда един спящ свят. В тунел, издълбан в древна вечно замръзнала почва край град Феърбанкс, учените са съживили микроорганизми, които са останали замръзнали в продължение на почти 40 000 години.

Първоначално инертни, тези микроби сега са се събудили, размножават се и отделят парникови газове, които могат да ускорят затоплянето на Земята. В продължение на шест месеца тези микроскопични организми не проявяват почти никаква активност. После нещо се променя.
